English version below

Oft hieß es bei unseren Urlauben, “Fast so schön wie Dänemark!”. (das musste Till des Öfteren hören ;-)) 

Aber seit wir das große Glück hatten, mit unseren lieben Freunden Robert und Tim an der Südküste Englands eine Woche zu fliegen, heißt es, “Genauso schön wie in Dänemark!” und so manches war noch schöner! 

Wie üblich buchen wir unseren Flug und Mietauto kurzfristig, wir checken noch schnell das Wetter und schon geht es auf die Insel.  

Wir starten unsere Reise in Cornwall. Robert und Tim sind schon ein paar Tage unterwegs, wir treffen sie in St. Ives, der Küstenort ist bekannt für ihre Kunstszene und Surfstrände, und siehe da, wir fliegen in der Carbis Bay. Wunderbare Düne zum Starten, die immer höher wird und dann einen fantastischen Blick auf St. Ives ermöglicht. Alle halben Stunden fährt ein Zug von St. Erth nach St. Ives und bietet so eine tolle Kulisse für Fotos. Dank des Windes und Wetters bleiben wir 3 Tage.

Wir fahren weiter nach St. Agnes. Gott sei Dank haben wir Tim, der uns sicher durch die engen Straßen und Gassen führt. Wir wandern am “South West Coast Path”, das ist die längste ausgeschilderte Wanderroute in England. Diese Route wurde bereits zweimal zur besten Wanderroute Englands gekürt. Die Route ist 630 Meilen lang, was 1014 Kilometern entspricht, und führt dich von Minehead nach South Haven Point durch Fischerdörfer, Bergpässe, Täler und geschäftige Küstenstädte. Tomy zieht es eher in die Lüfte und fliegt, bei etwas stärkerem Wind hoch über uns hinweg. Für ihn der beeindruckendste Flug hier in England! Vorsicht ist hier geboten, da nur Toplanden möglich ist!

Wieder einmal sind wir mit bestem Wetter gesegnet! Nicht das typische englische “shit”- Wetter das uns viele prophezeit haben, eher unser “Hofbauer”-Wetter!  

Wir wechseln die Grafschaft und erreichen Putsborough in Devon. Einer meiner Lieblingsplätze auf dieser Reise. Großer Strand, toller Startplatz, der auch ideal zum Toplanden einlädt, aber auch mächtige Klippen! Wir fliegen bis zum Sonnenuntergang. Diesmal nutzen wir den Campingplatz, der nicht weit vom Startplatz angelegt ist und genießen die Duschen ausgiebig!

Schweren Herzens verlassen wir Putsborough und fahren an der Küste entlang nach Ilfracombe. Ilfracombe ist eine Kleinstadt mit ca. 12.000 Einwohnern an der Nordküste der südwestenglischen Grafschaft Devon. Sie hat einen kleinen Naturhafen, der dominiert wird von dem natürlichen Wahrzeichen der Stadt, dem Hillsborough Hill mit den Überresten einer keltischen Befestigung aus der Eisenzeit. Weiter geht es zum Valley of Rocks, die am South West Coast Path liegen.

   

Unser nächstes Ziel ist Bridport an der Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Der Ort lebte ursprünglich von seinem Fischereihafen und der Herstellung von Seilen und hat ca. 13.000 Einwohner. Dieser Küstenabschnitt beinhaltet Sedimentgesteinen der Trias-, des Jura- und der Kreidezeit und bilden damit ein Fenster zu etwa 185 Millionen Jahren der Erdgeschichte. Neben den Felsklippen weist die Landschaft noch eine Anzahl an verschiedenen Küstenformen auf wie etwa kleine Buchten Strände und Dünenstreifen. Wie z.B. The Durdle Door 

Dort lernen wir Gitte, Tims Frau und Mike, Tims Bruder kennen. Wir werden mit so viel Herzlichkeit empfangen und sind immer noch dankbar so liebe Menschen kennengelernt zu haben. Besonderes Highlight ist unser Pub Besuch im ”Ropes”. Dort tanzen wir und feiern unseren 1. Hochzeitstag, mit englischer Live-Musik und Guinness Bier. 

Glücklich, dass der Wind es zu lässt, fahren wir nach Swanage und fliegen entlang der weißen Felsen. Wir suchen uns einen passenden Startplatz und sind wieder ganz alleine in der Luft! Da nicht viele Besucher am Strand sind, ist das Landen dort auch kein Problem.

Toller Abschluss einer genialen Reise, die Robert, Tim, Gitte und Mike zu etwas Besonderen gemacht haben!

Often it was said during our vacations, “Almost as beautiful as Denmark!”. (Till had to hear that quite often ;-))

But since we had the great luck to fly with our dear friends Robert and Tim on the south coast of England for a week, it is said, “Just as beautiful as Denmark!” and some things were even more beautiful!

As usual, we book our flight and rental car at short notice, we quickly check the weather and off we go to the island.

We start our trip in Cornwall. Robert and Tim are already a few days on the road, we meet them in St. Ives, the coastal town is known for their art scene and surf beaches, and lo and behold, we fly in Carbis Bay. Wonderful dune to start, getting higher and higher and then a fantastic view of St. Ives. A train leaves St Erth for St Ives every half hour, providing a great backdrop for photos. Thanks to the wind and weather, we stay 3 days.

We continue to St. Agnes. Thank God we have Tim to guide us safely through the narrow streets and alleys. We walk along the “South West Coast Path”, which is the longest signposted walking route in England. This route has already been chosen twice as the best walking route in England. The route is 630 miles long, which is 1014 kilometers, and takes you from Minehead to South Haven Point through fishing villages, mountain passes, valleys and bustling coastal towns. Tomy is more drawn to the skies and flies high above us in somewhat stronger winds. For him the most impressive flight here in England! Caution is advised here, as only top landing is possible!

Once again we are blessed with the best weather! Not the typical English “shit” weather that many have predicted for us, rather our “Hofbauer” weather!

We change counties and reach Putsborough in Devon. One of my favorite places on this trip. Great beach, great launch site, which is also ideal for top landing, but also mighty cliffs! We fly until sunset. This time we use the campsite, which is not far from the launch site and enjoy the showers extensively!

With heavy hearts we leave Putsborough and drive along the coast to Ilfracombe. Ilfracombe is a small town with about 12,000 inhabitants on the north coast of the southwestern English county of Devon. It has a small natural harbor dominated by the town’s natural landmark, Hillsborough Hill, with the remains of an Iron Age Celtic fortification. Continue to the Valley of Rocks, located on the South West Coast Path.

   

Our next destination is Bridport on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. The town originally lived from its fishing port and the manufacture of ropes and has a population of about 13,000. This stretch of coastline contains sedimentary rocks from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, forming a window to about 185 million years of Earth’s history. In addition to the rocky cliffs, the landscape still features a number of different coastal forms such as small coves beaches and dune strips. Such as: The Durdle Door

There we meet Gitte, Tim’s wife and Mike, Tim’s brother. We are welcomed with so much warmth and are still grateful to have met such lovely people. A special highlight is our pub visit at the “Ropes”. There we dance and celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, with live English music and Guinness beer.

Happy that the wind allows it, we drive to Swanage and fly along the white rocks. We look for a suitable launch site and are again all alone in the air! Since there are not many visitors on the beach, landing there is also no problem.

Great end to a brilliant trip that Robert, Tim, Gitte and Mike made special!
