Unser diesjähriges Climb & Fly Team Meeting fand wieder, wie schon beim unserem ersten Treffen vor drei Jahren, auf der Erinnerungshütte statt. Diese kleine Selbstversorgerhütte liegt auf der Wetterstein-Südseite, kurz oberhalb des Scharnitzjochs auf 2083 m. Der ideale Ausgangspunkt für viele sportliche und alpine Klettereien mit Start- und Landeplätzen rundum.

Unser gemeinsames Wochenende begann am Freitagabend am Parkplatz im Gaistal mit der mehr oder weniger gerechten Aufteilung von Material und Verpflegung für den knapp 1000 Höhenmeter Aufstieg zur Hütte (je größer der Hunger, desto größer der Rucksack?).  Obwohl der BANTAM ein echtes Leichtgewicht ist, kommen zusammen mit der Kletterausrüstung und dem Essen für drei Tage schon einige Kilos in den Rucksäcken zusammen.

This year’s Climb & Fly Team Meeting took place at the Erinnerungshütte, just like our first meeting three years ago. This small self-catering hut is located on the south side of the Wetterstein range, just above the Scharnitzjoch at 2083 m. The ideal starting point for many sport and trad climbs, with launching and landing sites all around.

Our weekend began on Friday evening at the parking lot in the Gaistal with the more or less fair distribution of gear and food for the almost 1000 altimeter ascend to the cabin (the bigger the hunger, the bigger the backpack ?). Although the BANTAM is a real lightweight, together with the climbing equipment and food for three days, the backpacks weighted a lot.

Im letzten Jahr hat sich einiges getan in unserem Team und wir hatten viel Gesprächsstoff für den Weg bis zur Hütte. Oben angekommen ließ der Anblick der massiven Felsriegel von Scharnitzspitze und Schüsselkarspitze unsere Flieger- und Kletterherzen höherschlagen. Das Abendessen hatten wir uns jedenfalls verdient. Zuerst mussten wir aber noch den Wasservorrat auffüllen und die Knödel schön rund formen.

Beim Abendessen schmiedeten wir große Pläne für den nächsten Tag. Da sogar auf 2000 m noch knapp 30°C und viel Sonne vorhergesagt wurden, wollten wir gleich in der Früh auf der Südseite, im Bereich der Wangscharte klettern, um über den Grat auf die Nordseite absteigen zu können und dort auf der kühlen Schattenseite in der Nordwand des Schüsselkarturms zu klettern.

Der Abend wurde gemütlich und lang… Und der Wecker klingelte früh…

A lot has happened in our team during the last year and we had enough to talk about during the ascend to the hut. Arriving at the top, the massive rock formations of the Scharnitzspitze and the Schüsselkarspitze made our paragliders and rockclimbers hearts beat faster. Anyway, we deserved our dinner. But first we had to fill up the water canisters and shape the dumplings nice and round.

While enjoying dinner, we made big plans for the next day. Since the weather forecast predicted almost 30°C and a lot of sun even at 2000 m, we wanted to climb on the south side in the Wangscharte area early in the morning in order to be able to descend over the ridge to the north side and climb there on the cool, shady side of the north face of the Schüsselkarturm.

Nach einem ergiebigen Frühstück machten wir uns auf den Weg zum Wandfuß. Von der Hütte geht es in ca. 30 Minuten direkt unter die Felswand. In drei Seilschaften stiegen wir verschiedene Routen ein. Ob es an der Temperatur lag oder am langen Vorabend, weiß ich nicht. Jedenfalls fühlten sich alle Routen schwerer an als erwartet. Ob es nun der echte alpine 6er Kamin war oder die sportlicher abgesicherte Route mit kleinsten Leisten, wir mussten uns ganz schön anstrengen und entschieden dann doch auf der Südseite zu bleiben und den Nachmittag zum Fliegen zu nutzen. Leider machte uns auch da der starke Südföhn einen Strich durch die Rechnung.

Ein bisschen spielten wir dann später aber doch noch mit unseren Bantams.

Mit einer riesigen Pfanne Kässpätzle ließen wir den Abend ausklingen.

After a hearty breakfast we made our way to the base of the wall. From the hut it takes about 30 minutes directly to the beginning of the routes. In three rope teams we climbed different routes. I don’t know whether it was the temperature or the long evening before, but all routes felt harder than expected. Whether it was the hard chimney or the well bolted route with smallest grimps, we had to make quite an effort and then decided to stay on the south side and use the afternoon to fly. Unfortunately, the Föhn wind from the south was too strong.

But later we played a bit with our bantams.

We ended the evening with a huge pan of “Kässpätzle”.

Die Wetterprognose für den Sonntag war wechselhaft. In der Früh waren wir in dichte Wolken gehüllt. Ein paar von uns entschieden sich nochmal klettern zu gehen. Die anderen warteten auf ein Wolkenfenster, um zu mindestens noch einen Abgleiter zurück ins Tal machen zu können. Gegen Mittag klarte es auf und das Wetter wurde besser als erwartet. So konnten wir alle noch einen abschließenden Flug zurück zum Parkplatz genießen.

The weather forecast for Sunday was unstable. In the morning we were wrapped in dense clouds. A few of us decided to go climbing again. The others waited for a cloud window to be able to at least fly down into the valley. Around noon it cleared up and the weather turned out better than expected. So we could all enjoy a final flight back to the parking lot.
